Rory Parnell-Mooney is an menswear designer who what born in Irland and now lives and works in London. He attended Central Saint Martins, completing his BA Honours(Fashion Design) and a Masters in Menswear.
His graduate collection was shown at London Fashion Week in 2014. He also presented his debut collection at London Collections:Men in January 2015 with support from Fashion East and Topman. His second solo collection was shown in June 2015 at the 10th anniversary of the MAN show at London Collections: Men.
Parnell-Mooney is currently stocked at Dover Street Market London and Dover Street Market New York. The Collection is also Sold at H.Lorenzo in LA and Nowhere in Dublin.
Rory Parnell-Mooney’s designs are very strutured and expresses minimalism to another level. He explores the folmility art of dressing, drawing garments through the category of religion by using simple, minimal designs and colours. Forward thinking shapes, luxurious fabrics and innovative techniques and colours, this won Parnell the MAN selection panel.
I love how Parnell Mooney uses the same plain but bold colours in his collection(white,black,navy and grey). Using this designer in my research will influence and inspire me for my FMP collection. I like Parnell’s aim, he uses a percific colour range and hasnt changed it. I believe doing this has given him a signature for his label which will remind people of who designed these great garments. I have noticed that Parnell has used layers in his designs which I think is a perfect idea because menswear designs are quite hard as in designing for womenswear you could use any creative technique such as draping or pleats. With menswear you have to be smart with your designs unless it is for a certain customer market. Parnell’s target market, as I am guessing, is for 20-25 years. His models look quite young and his garments are suitable for younger customer base. Although I can imagine some of his designs could be worn by a older customer base rapper/designer Kanye West,maybe to a certain occassion such as a wedding.
